Cherokee Students Will Raise Funds for Benny's World With Lemonade Stands

Eighth grade graduation is June 2 at Lake Forest High School's west campus.

Cherokee Elementary School’s fourth graders invite the Lake Forest community to join them in their service-learning project to raise funds for Benny’s World, a non-profit foundation established to fund research to find a cure for pediatric brain stem tumors. On May 21, students will host a lemonade stand and bake sale at four different locations in Lake Forest. The lemonade stands will be located at Market Square, , and Jewel from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at the LFSA soccer fields at , 300 S. Waukegan Road, from noon-2 p.m. Lake Forest residents, Lisa and Brendan Watters, established Benny’s World in 2008 when their son Benny was diagnosed with a brain stem tumor that took his life last year. Benny was only 6 years old when he passed away. Monies raised by the Cherokee students will be used to purchase 18 “There’s a Monkey in My Chair” kits which include stuffed monkeys to help pre-school and elementary aged children stay connected to the classroom when away for cancer treatments. Kits costs $75 each. The balance of the funds raised will go to cancer research.
