Deer Path Girls' Cross Country Grabs 2nd at State After Winning Sectional Title

Make 3rd straight appearance at State.

girls' cross country team captured second place at last weekend's Illinois Elementary School Association State meet at Maxwell Park in Normal, Ill.

It was the third straight appearance by Deer Path, which finished with 122 points to trail team champ Chatham Glenwood's 80. The rest of the top five included Edwardsville Liberty (172), Oak Park Brooks (230) and Normal Parkside (247).

Deer Path's top finisher was Geneva Lee, who took 14th in 12 minutes, 11 seconds for the two-mile course. Lauren Garriques and Alex Manley crossed in 20th ands 21st, respectively, in times of 12:17 and 12:18. The rest of the top seven scoring runners were: Elise Wong, 30th, 12:30; Haley Click, 37th, 12:35; Tegan Morcott, 50th, 12:46, and Kelsey Schmidt, 103rd, 13:15.

Also competing for Deer Path this fall were Zoe Panos, Erica Jones, and Mary Gregg.

The girl's team advanced to the state competition after winning their second straight IESA Sectional meet against 14 other teams.

Deer Path had 25 points for first place followed by Wadsworth Milburn (58) and Mundelein Carl Sandburg (90). Deer Path's top finisher was Click in 12:06.
