Deer Path Middle School Advances 7 Wrestlers to State

Make trip Friday to Northern Illinois University.

 

will send seven wrestlers to the Illinois Elementary School Association State Wrestling meet starting Friday at Northern Illinois University's Convocation Center in DeKalb.

The Braves advanced by placing in the top three of their weight class from last weekend's Sectional tournament at Shepard Junior High in Deerfield.

Seventh grader Andrew Tuttle (25-9) at 80 pounds and classmate Marko Tupanjac (24-2) at 100 pounds each collected second places in their respective weight classes.

Third places went to seventh grader Terk Klavsons (26-6) at 90 pounds; seventh grader Liam Pooler (21-13) at 95 pounds; eighth grader Gage Griffin (25-4) at 105 pounds; eighth grader Keegan Kullby (32-6) at 112 pounds, and seventh grader Cory Barth (21-10) at 215 pounds.

"The 112-pound weight class had four returning state qualifiers in the bracket," said . "Keegan defeated D.J. Penick from Northwood (Highland Park) in a great match to advance."

Caruso Junior High ofn Deerfield captured the Sectional team title with 218 points followed by Hawthorn Middle School North of Vernon Hills with 167. Deer Path took third.
