Deer Path Students Nominate Charities to Benefit from Annual Walk-a-thon

The walk-a-thon will be held on Friday, May 17th on the Deer Path Middle School campus between 2:45 and 3:30.

The information below provided by District 67.

Every year, students at Deer Path Middle School participate in a walk-a-thon to raise money for a variety of charities.  The process of selecting these charities is student-driven and begins with an invitation for students in grades 5-8 to nominate charitable organizations about which they are passionate. The goal is for the DPM campus to come together to raise awareness for these organizations, whether they are local, national, or international.

Students were given a two-week timeframe to complete an application, during which a total of 20 organizations were nominated. The walk-a-thon subcommittee, made up of representatives from the grade 5/6 and 7/8 student councils, met with advisors to review all of the applications. The students then narrowed the group down to our “Final Five”, and the nominated applicants were tasked with putting together 5-minute presentations, which will be viewed by the entire student body in the Peck Gym on Wednesday, April 10 at 11:00 am and 12:00 pm. Students were encouraged to incorporate their media skills into their presentations to promote these charitable organizations. Following the presentations, an all-campus vote will take place on April 11th with the selected organization(s) being named on April 12th.

The walk-a-thon will be held on Friday, May 17th on the Deer Path Middle School campus between 2:45 and 3:30. Students will raise awareness for the selected organization(s) by raising money and by creating opportunities to become personally connected. This may include bringing in guest speakers or representatives from the organization(s). Past beneficiaries have included Benny’s World, Bear Necessities, and the Rotary Water Project (Well Being).
