Deer Path Wrestlers Hit Tough Competition at State

Tupanjac wins opening match before falling in wrestlebacks.

 

Dates: March 9-10 - Illinois Elementary School Association State Wrestling meet in DeKalb, Ill.

The Final Score: 1. DeKalb Clinton Rosette 199; 2. Glen Ellyn Hadley 152; 3. Homer Glen 127.5; 86 (tie with two other teams). Deer Path Middle School 3. (See team standings)

Top Performers:  Keegan Kullby (112 pounds) lost his opening match to Romeoville Lukancic's Gio Dekire, 10-0, then beat Fox Lake Stanton's Jacob Melton, 2-1, before losing in the wrestlebacks to Cahokia Wirth's Deairis Tipler, 10-0. Marko Tupanjac beat Petersburg Porta Junior High's Nic Essliner, 5-3, but then was pinned by Homer Glen's George Wolfe. In the wrestleback, Tupanjac lost to DeKalb Huntley's Brenden McGee, 7-0.

Other Notable Performances: Cory Barth (215 pounds) lost in the first round to Wadsworth Millburn's Colin Monahan, 13-3; Gage Griffin (105 pounds) lost to DeKalb Clinton Rosette's Izaiah Washington, 11-1; Liam Pooler (95 pounds) lost to Homer Glen's Chase Peters, 5-0; Terk Klavsons (90 pounds) lost to Homer Glen's Chandler Proszek, 3-0, and Andrew Tuttle (80 pounds) lost to Homer Glen's Camden Crowley, 4-2, in overtime.

Bottom Line: Deer Path drew some tough early matches, many against the third-place team from Homer Glen.
