Friday Night's Peak Performer Recital Recognizes Student Talent

Deer Path Middle School teacher earns spot in finals of Golden Apple Award.

Congratulations to Barb Binversie, fifth grade teacher at Deer Path Middle School for being named as a finalist for the 2011 Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching.  Binversie has reached the finalist phase of the selection process and is one of 31 who were honored at a brunch in Chicago in April.

The following students were selected to perform at the inaugural Peak Performer Recital at 7 p.m. April 15  in the Deer Path Middle School auditorium. These students were selected based on an audition by professional judges and received the top scores. This was a high-level competition with over 45 students from fifth to eighth grade auditioning on voice, instrumental or dramatic monologue. The students include: Clara Butler, 5th grade/voice; Elise Gerskovich, 6th grade/piano; Tyler Kimbrel, 6th grade/drama; Alison Lui, 8th grade/viola; Janie Margolis, 6th grade/voice; Allison Milligan, 8th grade/flute; Michael Noronha, 7th grade/piano; Emma Parkinson, 8th grade/viola; Alex Prindle, 8th grade/piano; Gabrielle Prindle, 6th grade/voice; Marisa Sardo, 7th grade/guitar; Connor Sheridan, 5th grade/cello; Carra Wu, 5th grade/drama; Angela Zhou, 5th grade/voice; Katie Zhou, 7th grade/piano.

A Tri-District Special Ed Study Parent Meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 19 in the Administrative Center Board Room, 300 S. Waukegan Road (Lake Forest High School West Campus). Dr. Harry Griffith, Dr. John Asplund and the special education administrative team and selected school board members will provide an important update.

April 22 will be a day of non-attendance for all District 67 schools.

The next Board of Education Meeting for District 67 will be held at 7 p.m. April 26 in the Board Room, Lake Forest High School West Campus, 300 S. Waukegan Road. Board agendas are posted on the district website (www.lf67.org) as well as minutes from previous meetings. Board meetings are also taped and then shown on Lake Forest City Channel 17 throughout the month at 7 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday.
