The eighth grade graduating class at Deer Path Middle School is holding a Recycle Electronics Drive from 8:30 am. to noon Saturday, April 21 at the school. Your technology recyclables will raise money for the Deer Path Middle School Class of 2012 community gift for the new sports complex at .

Clear out old electronics that cannot be included in your regular trash disposal. Items can be dropped off at the back of Deer Path Middle School (take Hastings Road to the back of the school). All electronics will be recycled by Universal Recycling Technologies, LLC (URT), a national electronic and universal waste recycling organization, headquartered in Janesville, Wis. Universal Recycling Technology is e-Steward Certified so you can be assured all data bearing devices are disposed of securely.

Items accepted at no charge at this event include computers, televisions, monitors, and general electronics and accessories. Items that are not accepted include appliances, dehumidifiers, fluorescent lamps and any mercury-containing devices.

 

Mother-Daughter Luncheon: "The Blessings of Not Being Perfect"

Middle School can be a pressure cooker filled with power struggles, conflicting impulses and strong emotions. Girls face unrealistic expectations about how to act, dress and behave. 

Licensed Clinical Social Worker Mary Lynn Meyers will offer advice on how to handle the many stresses unique to middle school aged girls. Don't miss this interactive workshop to learn together how to cope with these pressures. You and your daughter will gain practical tips to handle the challenges and to better understand the importance of not being perfect!

 

St. James Lutheran Church Celebrates 50 Years

 in Lake Forest will celebrate its 50th annioversary with a dinner and program at 5:30 p.m. April 21 at the .

In addition to musical entertainment, members will review highlights of each decade of the church's history. Most of the pastors who have served the church over the decades will be in attendance.

As part of its anniversary campaign, the church is attempting to raise $50,000 to be donated to Lutheran Social Services of Illinois. So far, more than $40,000 has been raised.

Learn to recognize, enjoy and appreciate the resident and migratory birds of northeastern Illinois. Bring binoculars. All sessions are held at colorful natural areas within an hour's drive of your home. The instructor will contact you with detailed directions on the location of the first class just before the course begins. Reach Out and Run 5K

Reach Out and Run 5k Run/Walk is celebrating its sixth year. This USATF certified course takes participants around the beautiful loops of Independence Grove Forest Preserve. Whether you are a seasoned or beginner runner, walker or just want to get outside for a worthy cause, this is a great race for a great cause. Proceeds are distributed to those in need in Lake County through the efforts of the St. Vincent DePaul Societies Grayslake and Gurnee chapters.

The first 500 registrants receive a free technical race T-shirt and goody bag. Entry fees are $30 for the 5K; $15 for Kids Fun Run; and $35 day of the race 5K.

Lake County Family YMCA Celebrates 100 Years of Community Impact

Lake County Family YMCA invites you to its 100 years of community impact Casino Night celebration at DoubleTree by Hilton in Mundelein.

The festive event will feature casino tables, music by the Jack Baron Quartet, dinner, and the raffle of a 2012 Chevy Camaro two-door CPE 1LT or cash prize. Winning ticket will be drawn at the event, but winner need not be present. Raffle tickets are $50 each and only 1,000 tickets will be sold.

Lake County Family YMCA Board Member and Event Committee Chair Dave Wille added that there will be a live and silent auction.

Casino Night tickets are $100 each or two for $175. Y members’ price is $90 each or two for $160. Forty-eight percent of the ticket price is tax deductible.  Donations to the Y are 100 percent tax deductible.
