Girl's State Tennis Tournament Update: Day One

Lake Forest High School ranked first at the end of Day One.

All four teams from Lake Forest High School did exceptionally well today at Day One of the State Tournament in Buffalo Grove.

Catherine Orfanos picked up six points today for LFHS. She won her first round against Leigh Friedman of Maine South 6-3, 6-4. In her second round, she defeated Lindsey Schlichting of Yorkville 6-0, 6-0. And Orfanos finished up her great day with a round against Taylor Tamblyn of New Trier, which she won 6-3, 6-4.

Elizabeth Zordani also had a stellar playing day, racking up another 6 points for LFHS. She won her first round against Courtney Hart of Danville 6-1, 6-1. Her second round was against Hannah Post of Loyola Academy, which Zordani won 6-0, 6-0. She finished out her first day of the tournament against Kadi Fauble of Quincy, which Zordani won 6-3, 6-0.

Maddie Lipp and Christina Zordani crushed their competition today as well. They won their first round against Jitsupa Sirint and Gabby Gregorio from Bartlett 6-0, 6-2. They also won their second round, which was Sophia Osabuohien and Timara Maxwell from Homewood-Flossmoore High School, 6-2, 6-0. And the power duo finished up their flawless performance with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Jenna Brozak and Jorie Fox of Deerfield High School.

Taya Zoubareva and Victoria Falk also had a great day. They won their first round against Alexis Silkwood and Claire Morrissey from Marquette 6-1, 6-0. Their second round was against Rachel Siemon and Kelsey Laktash, which Zoubareva and Falk won 6-4, 6-1. They lost their last round against Benet Academy students Mary Beth King and Daniella Reyes in three matches, 6-1, 7-6.

Lake Forest High School's team score right now is 22 points, putting them at first place at the end of Day One. Central High School is in second place with 19 points, and New Trier is at third with 18.

Woodlands Academy student Caitlin McCarthy won her first round today against Mindy Borovsky of Deerfield High School 7-5, 6-1. She lost her second match against Haley Wilcox of Tinley Park High School 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Tomorrow she'll play Molly Nguyen from Mattoon High School.
