Girls' Track Sweeps Zion, Stevenson; Boys Track Earns Split; Baseball Falls in Extra Innings

Field events key boys; girls show strength in both field, running events.

BOYS' TRACK

Date: April 20

The Final Score: Zion-Benton 75, Lake Forest 71; Lake Forest 123, Stevenson 23

Scouts’ Star Performer:  Top finishers included Billy Bund in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:24.6; Ben Sperry in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:13 and Matt Miller captured both the shot put and discus.

Other Notable Scout Performances: The field events proved to be very successful for the Scouts. Matt Summers sailed to first in the pole vault;  Christian Stoltzman soared to win the high jump; Connor Adams duplicated the feat in the long jump, and Ryan Miller won the triple jump.

Who's Next: Lake Forest hosts the Scout Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday (April 23).

The Bottom Line: The Scouts competed well in placing second to a strong Zion team. The meet came down to the wire and even just one more second place finish could have swayed the score in favor of the Scouts.

 

GIRLS' TRACK

Date: April 20, 2011

The Final Score: Lake Forest 112, Zion-Benton 34; Lake Forest 88, Stevenson 57

Scouts’ Star Performer: Helen Schlachtenhaufen placed first in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:23.1 and first in the 1,600 with a time of 5:42.3. Olivia Merlin cleared 4 feet, 10 inches to win the high jump.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Carolina Carmichael placed first in the triple jump, first in long jump, first in the 300 hurdles, and second in the 100 hurdles.

Who's Next: The Scouts travel to the Palatine Invite at 10 a.m. Saturday (April 23).

The Bottom Line: After sweeping almost all of the field events, how could the Scouts not be a force to be reckoned with? The team is strong all around even after facing some rough injuries.

 

BASEBALL

Date: April 20

The Final Score: Stevenson 6, (9 innings)

Scouts’ Star Performer: and connected for doubles and each drove in a run.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Jacob Hellinga stole three bases and notched an RBI. Alex Ehrens collected a pair of base hits in three trips to the plate.

Who’s Next:  The Scouts travel to Stevenson at 4:30 today (April 21) for a return engagement with the Patriots. They arrive home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (April 23) to face Waukegan.

The Bottom Line:  Lake Forest erupted for three runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game, 3-3. Each team scored once more to force two extra innings before Stevenson crossed the plate twice in the top of the ninth to secure the win.
