Lake Forest Booster Club Pursues New Athletic Complex At East Campus

Unveils plans tonight to raise $2.5 million for Lindenmeyer Field makeover.

Lake Forest High School’s Booster Club will embark on an ambitious plan to raise $2.5 million to build a new multi-purpose athletic complex at the east campus’ Lindenmeyer Field by October 2012.

The Booster Club will unveil its plan with a reception at 7:30 tonight at east campus.

The “Diamond Anniversary Campaign” will fund the construction of a state-of-the-art running track and two synthetic turf fields to house field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, track and field, physical education classes, the LFHS Marching Band, intramurals, youth sports programs and community recreation.

According to the Booster Club’s flier for the event, the East Campus fields have “outlived their useful purpose,” and cannot host “current or future athletic participation levels” at the high school. A new sports complex is termed as an “immediate need.”

“Repairing and retrofitting the existing outdoor athletic facilities at Lindenmeyer Field simply is not cost effective, and enhancements to the LFHS Front Lawn (where field hockey and lacrosse games take place) are not practical,” the brochure stated.

The projected timetable for the construction begins in August 2012 with the installation of the turf fields, followed by the track and field facilities by September, the bleachers and press box by October plus a concourse, including an Edgar Lindenmeyer Memorial Wall and Donor Tribute.
