Lake Forest Boys’ Golfers Win Sectional, Advance to State

Scout girls' tennis earns 2nd in league meet, girls' hockey starts with three wins. Swimmers collect 2nd at St. Charles Invite.

Scouts’ Star Performer:  led the Scouts with a 74.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Charley Marshall and Drew Takacs each fired 75s while Joe Willis added a 77.

Who’s Next: The Scouts defend their Friday and Saturday at the Den in Bloomington. 

The Bottom Line: The Scouts put together a solid team effort to tie for the Sectional crown and earn a repeat trip to the state tournament. 

 

GIRLS' TENNIS

Date: Oct. 7

The Final Score:  1. Stevenson 38; 2. Lake Forest 32; 3. Libertyville 20.5; 4. Warren 18.5; 5. Mundelein 15.5; 6. Vernon Hills 12.5; 7. Lakes 12; 8. Lake Zurich 9; 9. Wauconda 7.5; 10. Antioch 6.5; 11. Zion-Benton 3.5; 12. Grant 2.5; 13. North Chicago, Round Lake 0.

Scouts’ Star Performer: Taya Zoubareva and Victoria Falk teamed up to take the league title in No. 1 Doubles.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Elizabeth Zordani (No. 1) and (No. 2) finished second in the singles events. Catherine Orfanos and Colleen Morris (No. 2) along with Erin Hart and Haley Killam grabbed runner-up doubles honors. 

Who’s Next: The Scouts travel to the Warren Sectional Saturday (Oct. 15). 

The Bottom Line: With one first-place finish and four seconds, the Scouts displayed depth to finish second in the North Suburban Conference Meet. They head to the Warren Sectional Saturday to begin defense of their state title.

 

GIRLS' HOCKEY

Date: Oct. 7 

The Final Score: 3, Latin 1 

Scouts’ Star Performers: Jessie Gould and Kelsey Patten each had a goal and an assist. Marie Soukup added two assists.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Haley Conroy scored a goal and Lucy Baron contributed an assist. Goalie Lindsay Projansky notched 11 saves. 

The Bottom Line: The game was tied midway through the final period before Patten gave the Scouts the lead and Conroy added an insurance goal. Lake Forest is 3-0 for the season. 

 

Date: Oct. 2 

The Final Score: Lake Forest 7, Warren 0 

Scouts’ Star Performers: Patten, Gould and Bridget Roche each tallied a pair of goals.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Soukup contributed a goal while Projansky earned her second shutout of the season. 

The Bottom Line: The Scouts took 10 minutes to score their first goal, but then the avalanche came as they blanked the Blue Devils for their second win of the season. 

 

Date: Sept. 28 

The Final Score: Lake Forest 5, Warren 0 

Scouts’ Star Performers: Madison Pfalzer scored a pair of goals while Gould notched a goal and an assist

Other Notable Scout Performance: Projansky posted 14 saves in her debut in net for the Scouts. 

Who’s Next: The Scouts entertain Leyden at 8 p.m. Friday (Oct. 14) at L. 

The Bottom Line: The Scouts began defense of their 2010 state title by blanking the Blue Devils. Projansky, a freshman from Stevenson High School, had a shutout in her first effort for Lake Forest replacing last year’s captain Hannah Redden. Redden was the only members of last year’s team to graduate. 

 

GIRLS' SWIMMING

Date: Oct. 8 - St. Charles Invitational

The Final Score: 1. St. Charles East 434; 2. Lake Forest 421; 3. Freeport 173; 4. Waubonsie Valley 167; 5. Palatine 144; 6. Lake Park 127. 

Scouts’ Star Performers: Mika Hlavin swam to first in the 100-yard butterfly, took second in the 100 freestyle and third in the 50 freestyle. She was also part of the second place quartet in the 400 medley relay along with Caitlin Lanigan, Anne McArdle and Eleanor Meeks. Christine Anderson added a first-place finish in diving and Olivia Campbell did the same in the 100 butterfly.

Other Notable Scout Performances: McArdle nabbed second in the 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 400 individual medley. The 800 freestyle relay team of Meeks, Campbell, Clare Wieland and Abbi Kordell also earned second-place honors. 

Who’s Next: The Scouts entertain Stevenson at 6 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 13) before competing in the Trevian Relays at 1:30 p.m. Saturday (Oct 15) in Winnetka. 

The Bottom Line: Without or Katie Schott available, the Scouts finished second in a field of several traditional state powers.
