Top Scout Performers: penalty kick gave Lake Forest 1-0 first-half lead, and Carly Hoke added a clincher early in the second half.

Other Notable Scout Performers: Goalie Liz Clark earned the shutout without much of challenge thanks to the Scouts' play in the middle of the field keeping control of the ball.

What's Next: Lake Forest faces either Lakes or Grayslake Central in the first round of the Lakes Sectional at 6:30 p.m. May 22 at Lakes High School, 1600 Eagle Way, Lake Villa.

The Bottom Line: The Scouts kept the ball in the Grayslake North end of the field for a majority of the game. In the opposite bracket of the sectional, Deerfield faces St. Viator at 4:30 p.m. May 22.

 

BOYS' TENNIS

Date: May 19 - Deerfield Sectional

The Final Score: 2. Deerfield and Highland Park, 22; 4. Carmel 10; 5. Mundelein and Wheeling, 8.

Top Scout Performers: Peter Tarwid defeated Lake Forest teammate Scott Christian, 6-3, 6-3, for third place, but both Scout singles players are headed to next weekend's State meet.

Other Notable Scout Performers: Lake Forest's Camron Bagheri and Connor O'Kelly knocked off teammates Ryan Kennedy and Will Martin, 6-3, 6-3, but both are headed to next weekend's State meet.

What's Next: Lake Forest 's two singles players and two doubles teams begin play Thursday in the State meet at various locations. The finals are set for St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights starting May 26.

The Bottom Line: The Scouts' depth led to the Sectional team title.

 

GIRLS' TRACK

Date: May 19 - Class 3A State meet: Pole Vault

The Final Score: 1. Carolina Carmichael, Lake Forest, 12 feet, 6 inches; 2. Brittany Hull, Normal Community, 12-3; 3. McKenzee Kroeschell, Oak Park-River Forest, 12-3; 4. Carly Schmidt, Lake Forest, 12-0.

Top Scout Performers: After finishing second at last year's State meet, .

Other Notable Scout Performers: Schmidt improved from last year's fifth place at State meet with fourth.

The Bottom Line: The Scouts' finished 17th in the team standings with 16 points. Evanston edged Edwardsville, 47-45, for the team title while Belleville West was third with 44 points.
