Scouts Add Gymnasts to State Meet With At-large Berths

Competition starts Friday night at Palatine High School.

 

GIRLS' GYMNASTICS

Lake Forest High School's girls' gymnastics team has qualified for its third straight State Meet starting Friday (Feb. 17) at Palatine High School. The Scouts were the last team to earn an at-large berth. Four teams - Carmel, Prairie Ridge, Glenbard North and Lyons - gained automatic berths by winning their sectional. The next four best scoring teams landed at-large spots, including Fremd, Stevenson, New Trier and Lake Forest.

In the indivdual events, the Scouts added some names to the State competition. The 12 best scorers in each event and in the All-Around competition from among all competitors in the sectionals in the events who did not finish among the top five advance with at-large berths. At the sectional, Kylie Carlson and Kat McKeon advanced with top five finishes.

Brittany Moccia and McKeon qualified for the all-around with scores of 36.65 and 36.625, respectively. The duo will also compete in the vault after hitting 9.425s, while Carlson and Moccia were added to the uneven parallel bars competition with 9.425 and 9.25, respectively. Moccia will also compete in floor exercise after a sectional score of 9.225.
