Lake Forest Girls' Tennis Will Have To Defend State Title Without Lipp

New column will update readers on current and former Lake Forest High School athletes.

The Scouts will be defending —boys’ golf and girls’ tennis—and hoping for others.

The tennis team will have to defend its crown without . A favorite to win the state singles title, the 20th ranked junior in the country will not compete for the Scouts.

She will concentrate on playing the fall junior circuit. Lipp was undefeated heading into last year’s State Meet before a third-round exit.

Swimmer enjoyed an excellent summer, according to Scouts coach and is primed to improve on her finish in last year’s State Finals. She lowered all of her times in the past few months. 

A year ago, she finished second in the 200-yard freestyle and third in the 500 freestyle. Everyone who beat her has moved on to college. 

Rachel’s brother, Mitch Stoehr, is set to return to Stanford University for his sophomore season. As a freshman, he was part of the Cardinal’s Pac 10 championship 800 freestyle relay team and took seventh in the 200 freestyle in the conference meet. 

While competing for the Scouts, Mitch was 2010 state champion in the 100 and 200 free. Will sister follow brother on the quest for gold?

As the field hockey team tries to improve on last year’s second place state finish, the 2010 Illinois player of the year, , will be plying her skills down Sheridan Road at Northwestern. Eleven state titles have been awarded this millennium and seven belong to Lake Forest.

Another former Scout, star catcher from this spring’s baseball team, will play for William & Mary in the 2013 season. He plans to hone his skills with a year of prep school first.
