Lake Forest Gymnasts Grab 2nd at Rolling Meadows Invite

Boys' basketball, girls' basketball both drop a pair.

 

GYMNASTICS

Date: Dec. 3 - Rolling Meadows Invitational (19-team field)

The Final Score:  1. Carmel 71.85, 3. Stevenson 67.975

Scouts’ Star Performer: Junior Kat McKeon captured first on the uneven parallel bars field with a 9.45; classmate Kylie Carlson placed fourth on floor exercise (9.05), and senior Katie Meier took fifth on the balance beam (9.15).

Other Notable Scout Performances: Junior Carly Schmidt swung to a ninth-place 8.575 on the uneven bars; classmate Christine Andersen tied for 10th place on vault (8.4); and sophomore Brittany Moccia finished 14th on balance beam (8.3). Freshman Laura Blake contributed a 7.9 on floor exercise, while sophomore Brooke Riewer scored a 7.5 on vault.

Who’s Next: Lake Forest and Stevenson square off again at 6 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 7) in Lake Forest.

The Bottom Line: Only two gymnasts from each school competed in each event, and each gymnast performed only one routine. The combined uneven bars scores (18.025) of McKeon and Schmidt was a meet-best mark on Saturday. Carmel’s bars entrants ranked second (17.95). Meier, the team’s lone senior, will undergo season-ending hip surgery Dec. 14. Her left hip labrum  is torn and has been bothering her since eighth grade. Meier opted to have the procedure this month because of the lengthy recovery period.

 

BOYS' BASKETBALL

Date: Dec. 2  

The Final Score:  Mundelein 67,

Scouts’ Star Performer: Thomas Durrett's 19 points tied for game-high scoring honors with Mundelein's Robert Knar.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Off the bench, Ben Simpson scored 12. Also off the bench, freshman Evan Boudreaux scored three points and snared eight rebounds, while Sam Downey added six points and six rebounds.

The Bottom Line: Mundelein led 38-29 at halftime and by as much as 17 in the third quarter and the Scouts were never able to crack the double-digit lead. The Mustangs also held starters John Hayes and Carter Bass to single-digit games.

 

Date: Dec. 3

The Final Score:  Carmel 49,

Scouts’ Star Performer: Thomas Durrett led again with 17 points.

The Bottom Line: The Scouts (3-3) trailed 27-13 at halftime and never recovered. Lake Forest hit only 3-of-15 first half shots. Carmel hit 27 of 37 foul shots.

Who's Next: In its only home game of the month, Lake Forest entertains Zion-Benton at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 10).

 

GIRLS' BASKETBALL

Date: Dec. 1  

The Final Score:  Mundelein 58,

Scouts’ Star Performer: Allie Danneker scored a team-high 14 points. Annie Keller tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Cat Perino contributed nine points. Mary Striedl added 11 rebounds and 5 blocks.

The Bottom Line: Lake Forest remained within striking distance for much of the game, closing to within four points in the final quarter, but could never get over the hump.

The Final Score:  Highland Park 50,

Scouts’ Star Performer: Gabby Perino scored a team-high nine points and added nine rebounds.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Sarah LaFasto and Allie Danneker chipped in eight points apiece. Mary Striedl made three 3 steals, and Anna Schwartz came off the bench to score four points.

Who's Next: Lake Forest (2-6) visits Zion-Benton at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 6) and hosts Warren at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Dec. 9).

The Bottom Line: The Scouts fell behind 22-10 at halftime and were unable to threaten in the second half.
