Lake Forest High School Principal to Retire Early

Jay Hoffmann cites "personal issues" in a letter to parents explaining that he has begun a leave of absence rather than wait till the end of the year to retire, as was originally planned.

Lake Forest High School Principal Jay Hoffmann will retire early, citing "personal issues" in an email announcement sent to parents on Wednesday and posted on The Gazebo News.

Hoffmann, who arrived in Lake Forest in 1988, began a leave of absence on Wednesday rather than waiting till the end of the year to retire, according to letter. He's asked the community to "respect my privacy."

"I have tried to take care of everyone the best I could through the years, and I think I have done a good job," Hoffmann wrote. "Unfortunately, I did not take care of myself. That is what I need to do now. I can no longer carry the load."
