Lake Forest High School Ranks Among Best in State

Local high school places 17th in U.S. News and World Report survey for Illinois.

Lake Forest High School is ranked 17th among Illinois high schools, according to the latest survey by U.S. News and World Report, placing it in an elite status among suburban institutions.

In the fifth edition of the survey, Lake Forest fell two spots from last year when it was 15th.

Other North Suburban schools on the list include Deerfield (fifth), Stevenson (sixth), Highland Park (seventh), New Trier (11), Glenbrook North (16), Evanston (18),  Vernon Hills (19) and Libertyville (20).

U.S. News created the rankings based on a list of more than 21,000 public high schools in 49 states and the District of Columbia, according to a press release from U.S. News. Schools are evaluated based on overall student performance on state tests, Advanced Placement tests and International Baccalaureate exams; rankings also take into account how well students educate black, Hispanic and economically disadvantaged students, according to the release.

The rankings are designed to capture how well high schools educate all of their students and prepare them for college-level work, according to U.S. News.
