Lake Forest Juniors to Take PSAE in April

As a condition of receiving a Lake Forest High School diploma, the Illinois State Board of Education requires this exam be taken by all Juniors.

The information below comes from Community High School District No. 115.

LFHS Junior students will be taking the Prairie State Achievement Examination (PSAE) at Lake Forest High School on Tuesday, April 23 – Wednesday, April 24.

As a condition of receiving a Lake Forest High School diploma, the Illinois State Board of Education requires this exam be taken by all Juniors, (as well as any Seniors who have not yet satisfied this requirement.) The PSAE also incorporates an ACT assessment. Information describing logistics of the school day and expectations of all students can be found at www.lfhs.org. Freshmen, sophomores and seniors who have satisfied their diploma requirement, do not report to school on these two days (unless arrangements have been made with teachers, coaches, or club sponsors). Seniors in need of fulfilling their diploma requirement, will be seated with the juniors during these (2) days of PSAE exams. Seniors unsure if they have met the diploma requirement, can check with their counselor.  The State ACT for Juniors, which is scheduled for April 23, 2013, will not include a writing portion. The State has decided not to fund the writing section for this school year. Please be advised in order to take the writing portion of the ACT your student will have to take a National ACT test with the writing section. Also, please note that state law requires students’ PSAE scores to be recorded on their transcripts (day one and day two scores). If you have any questions, please contact your counselor. The Illinois State Scholar Program gives statewide recognition to those students who have attained outstanding scholastic achievement as determined by their academic record, ACT assessment scores and high school certification.

LFHS Prom tickets will be sold April 16-18. All junior and senior students should have received their Prom invitations in the mail. Prom tickets will be sold on April 16, 17,18 in the student commons area during all lunch periods (10:40 am -1:20 pm).  Only LFHS junior and senior students may purchase tickets. Underclassmen may attend prom only if invited by an upperclassman. Singles are encouraged to attend. More information can be found at www.lfhs.org.

Junior parents are encouraged to volunteer to be Prom chaperones on May 18. Please contact: Lisa Whalley at 847-234-2868 orLPWhalley@yahoo.com.
The LFHS Prom Committee is looking for 18 couples (husband/wife, friend/friend), to help chaperone the 2013 Prom on May 18. Please support your Junior Class Prom Committee and help chaperone this wonderful event.

Young Idea, Lake Forest High School's annual art and literary magazine, has been a vital tradition for decades and has won many national awards over the years.  The magazine is currently in its layout stage and is scheduled for publication in early May. About two dozen students have met weekly to discuss over one hundred pieces of prose and poetry submitted to the magazine for consideration. This year's magazine will once again feature the prose, poetry, photography, painting, and drawing of our talented Lake Forest High School students.

If you would like to support our creative endeavor, please pre-order a copy of the 2013 issue for only $20.00. Order forms can be downloaded at www.lfhs.org. A limited quantity of magazines will be published, so order yours today and enjoy the artistry of your community’s youth!
