Lake Forest, Lake Bluff Students Earn Diplomas

In order to qualify for the Dean's List at DePaul, students must earn above a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Colt Thomas Marcyan of Lake Forest graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. Marcyan earned a bachelor's degree in business administration.

Gordon Lamphere of Lake Forest received the Male Scholar Athlete at St. Mary's College of Maryland

Mary Hulseman of Lake Bluff was one of 34 University of Dallas English majors to recently present her capstone project, commonly referred to as "Senior Novel." Such presentations are the culmination of intensive research on a major literary work, and are required of all seniors in order to satisfy degree requirements. Hulseman's presentation was on Marilynne Robinson's "Housekeeping."

Margaret Brandwein of Lake Forest has received a bachelor's degree of General Studies in Applied Behavioral Sciences and Psychology minor from the University of Kansas. Elizabeth Jaekel of Lake Forest also has received a bachelor's degree in journalism from Kansas.

Kansas University honored doctoral graduate Alexander Grenning of Lake Forest as an Argersinger nominee. Grenning, graduating with a doctorate in chemistry, wrote "Palladium-Catalyzed Allylic Alkylation via Decarboxylative and Retro-Claisen C−C Cleavage Methods." All of the dissertations nominated were defended with honors, the highest mark given to a dissertation defense. "In a typical academic year, less than 10 percent of all the dissertations defended at KU earn honors," said Thomas Heilke, dean of Graduate Studies. The Argersinger Prize was established through KU Endowment in 1992 and is named in honor of William J. Argersinger and his wife. He was KU's first vice chancellor for research and graduate studies and dean of the graduate school.

Lake Forest product Lisa Jane Ottensmeyer, a senior at Wake Forest University, was one of 85 students inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Phi Beta Kappa celebrates and advocates excellence in the liberal arts and sciences.

Villanova University named the following students to the Dean's List for the fall 2011 semester. Louise Campbell, from Lake Forest, is enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Grace Williams, from Lake Forest, is enrolled in the College of Engineering. Villanova University Dean's List recipients are honored by their college's respective dean. To qualify, one must be a matriculated full-time student and earn a semester grade point average of at least 3.5.
