Lake Forest Opens Swim Season with Dual Win Over Fremd

Bunning, Grumhaus, Rowe each win a pair of races.

The Final Score: Fremd 61

Scouts’ Star Performer: Peter Grumhaus, Bryan Bunning and Colin Rowe each captured a pair of races in dominating Fremd. Grumhaus was victorious in the 200- and 500-yard freestyles with times of 1:45.70 and 4:45.12; Bunning swept the 100 butterfly (53.65) and the 200 individual medley (2:02.18), while speedster Rowe collected firsts in the 50- and 100 freestyles in 22.68 and 50.51, respectively. All three swimmers also helped the Scouts win the 200 medley relay in 1:38.95 along with Bogdan Balteanu and the 400 freestyle relay in 3:18.65 along with Michael LeMay.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Andrew Marsh and Jack Williams placed 1-2 in diving with 171.50 and 155.90 points, respectively. LeMay added a first n the 100 backstroke (56.98) and a second in the 100 butterfly. Peter McCormick took third in the 100 butterfly. Balteanu won the 100 breaststroke (1:04.89) and took second in the 100 freestyle. Thomas Remmissong nabbed third in the 100 freestyle; Scott Bennatan was third in the 500 freestyle; Daniel Smith captured second in the 100 backstroke as did Mitchell Cole in the 100 breaststroke.

Who’s Next: Lake Forest visits Zion-Benton at 5 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 8) and participates in the Bronco Relays on Saturday (Dec. 10).

The Bottom Line: Scouts received some good early swims from freshmen Michael LeMay, Daniel Smith, Spencer Moore, Nico Demet, Scott Bennatan and Jeffrey Stevens. Veterans Bryan Bunning, Peter Grumhaus, Colin Rowe, Peter McCormick, David Hayes and Andrew Marsh will be key as season progresses.
