VIDEO: Lake Forest Product Tommy Rees Leads Notre Dame to Road Win at Wake Forest

The Irish come from behind to beat the Demon Deacons; good Tommy, bad Tommy on display

THE SKINNY: Tommy Rees won his 10th game as a starter (against two losses) as the Irish win their first-ever meeting against Wake Forest, 24-17, Saturday night in Winston-Salem, NC. The sophomore quarterback was 14-of-23 passing for 166 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Game highlights from ESPN. (VIDEO).

GOOD TOMMY: They say a quarterback's best friend is a running game. The Irish got that from Jonas Grey, who rushed for 92 yards on 19 carries. But when Rees is most effective, he is getting the ball to Tyler Eifert and Michael Floyd. He hooked up with Eifert for the Irish's first touchdown, a 38-yarder late in the first quarter, then with Floyd, which turned out to be the game-winner early in the second half. (VIDEO). Rees now has 28 career touchdowns, good for seventh all-time in school history.

BAD TOMMY: Two interceptions by Rees drew the ire of Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly, the second one being the most egregious. With six minutes left in the third quarter and the Irish ahead 24-17 and going for the kill shot, Rees took a toss back from Grey and over threw Floyd in double coverage. The Deacons intercepted the ball and took it back deep into Notre Dame territory. A Wake Forest fumble prevented what would have been at least a field goal attempt.

We have always been Notre Dame fans but it makes it even nicer Tommy Rees is our neighbor.

That's great to hear, Frank. It makes it more fun to watch when you know one of the kids playing.
