Lake Forest Schools Continue Committment to Safety

Lake Forest Districts 67 and 115 continue to review procedures to make sure schools are as safe as possible.

Following Friday's tragic school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, Lake Forest School Districts 67 and 115 announced to parents that they would be reviewing the schools's safety protocol

"We are working closely with our local police officials to review our procedures," said Anne Whipple, Director of Communications for both District 67 and District 115. She noted that they were also reviewing visitor protocol with all office staff, and reviewing safety and crises management plans with outside security consultants.

A statement released to parents on Friday afternoon affirmed that teachers and school counselors will be on hand throughout the week for parents and/or children who need support. The statement also said that teachers will not discuss the tragedy with their students in the class, but they are available for any individual student concerns.

"District 67 has safety and crises plans in place that were developed with the assistance of law enforcement," the statement said. "We would like to underscore that we recently reviewed all of our building security measures and are following them closely. Please be assured providing a safe learning environment for our students and staff is our first priority."
