Lake Forest Scores 48 Unanswered Points to Rout Fenton

Scouts dominate rest of the game after giving up early TD.

Date: Oct. 28

The Final Score:  55, Fenton 20

Scouts’ Star Performer: is back. Really back. The senior signal caller showed no signs of having missed the last two regular season games due to an injury to his left elbow, hitting 10 of 14 passes for 124 yards, 1 touchdown and no interceptions. He rushed for minus 2 yards, but this was not a game where he had to run. His athleticism is a real key for the Scouts offense, plus his timing with receivers like Luke Bernardi is invaluable. Bernardi had one of his best games of the season, catching seven passes for 122 yards.

Other Notable Scout Performances: You can never take for granted Owen Williams, especially after the senior scores four touchdowns, rushes for 116 yards on 15 carries and sits out the last quarter and a half of the game. He had another 49-yard TD called back because of the Lake Forest penalty. The Scouts defense recovered from an opening stumble when Fenton scored on its first possession, limiting the Bison's spread offense to 211 passing yards. Rushing? Fenton had minus 34 yards. Minus. Lake Forest also forced two fumbles, intercepted two passes - one returned by Matt Wagener for a TD - and recorded three sacks (Alex Plonsker - 2 - and Trent Williams). Jack Kutschke led Scout tacklers with five.

Who’s Next: The Scouts (8-2) travel to Batavia to take on the unbeaten Bulldogs (10-0) in the second round of the Class 6A State playoffs. The time and day will be announced on Monday (Oct. 31) by the Illinois High School Association. Last year, Lake Forest played its second-round game against Crystal Lake South on a Saturday afternoon.

The Bottom Line: Lake Forest accumulated 433 yards of total offense. Fenton gained most of its yards in the fourth quarter against the second-team defense when the game was already over. The one downside was penalties again - an achilles heel for this team at times - with 11 for 135 yards.
