Lake Forest Swimmers Secure Lake County Meet Title; Boys' Golf Beats NT

Soccer team blanks Wauconda, girls' golfers finish second at Loyola Invitational.

Scouts’ Star Performer: breezed to victories in the 200-yard freestyle and 500 freestyle. She also anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay team and the second place quartet in the 400 freestyle relay.

Other Notable Scout Performances: took the 200 individual medley, finished second in the 100 butterfly and joined the 400 freestyle relay team. placed in the 100 freestyle, third in the 50 freestyle and contributed to the 200- and 400 freestyle relay efforts.

Who’s Next: The Scouts participate in the Evanston Invitational at 1 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 1). 

The Bottom Line: Stoehr’s dominance in her event coupled with strong relay performances gave the Scouts the margin of victory. 

 

BOYS' GOLF

Date: Sept. 24

The Final Score: 1. Lake Forest Blue 286; 2. New Trier 303; 3. Lake Forest Gold 304; 4. Glenbrook North, Stevenson 309; 6. Loyola 314; 7. Carmel 315; 8. Libertyville 318; 9. Evanston 322; 10. Highland Park 323; 11. Woodstock 325; 12. Warren 328; 13. Antioch 338; 14. Buffalo Grove 364; 15. Waukegan 395; 16. Vernon Hills 401.

Scouts’ Star Performers: Joe Willis, Charlie Marshall and Nick Steffens all finished with a one-under par 71 to tie for first place honors. Marshall took first on a score card playoff, Willis second and Steffens fifth.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Ian Mankoff added a 73 for the Blue team. Max Mardjetko fired a 74 to take eighth overall and lead the Gold squad. Also scoring for the Golds were Alex Appelbaum with a 75, Chad Williams at 76 and Henry Briggs at 78.

Who’s Next: The Scouts compete in the North Suburban Conference Meet Friday (Sept. 30) at Willow Glen at Naval Station Great Lakes in North Chicago. The meet was originally set for Tuesday (Sept. 27), but rain moved it to Friday.

The Bottom Line: The Scouts averaged under par as a team for the second time this season, and the first time in 18-hole competition. Of the 12 golfers competing for Lake Forest, no one scored less than 78. The defending state champion Scouts finished 17 strokes ahead of last year’s runnerup New Trier.

 

BOYS' SOCCER

Date: Sept. 22 

The Final Score: Lake Forest 6, Wauconda 0 

Scouts’ Star Performers: James Ankenman and each had a goal and an assist. contributed two assists.

Other Notable Scout Performances:, Kevin Goon, Alex Wesolowski and Adam La Vitola each scored goals. Goalie Devin Gregory posted the team’s fifth shutout of the season. 

Who’s Next: The Scouts travel to Stevenson at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 27). 

The Bottom Line: The Scouts jumped on the Bulldogs early, scoring four first half goals to coast to their eighth victory of the season. They are 8-3-0 for the year. 

 

GIRLS' GOLF

Date: Sept. 24 

The Final Score: 1. Loyola 322; 2. Lake Forest 365; 3. Glenbrook North 374; 4. St. Viator 384; 4. Glenbrook South 391. 

Scouts’ Star Performers: carded an 81 to take second place.

Who’s Next: The Scouts compete simultaneously in the North Suburban Conference meet and Prairie Lakes Invitational at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 28) at the
