Lake Forest Volleyball, Cross Country, Tennis Find Success

Volleyball opens NSC play with win; Tennis stays strong in dual meets; Cross county garners top finishes.

GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL

Date: Sept. 6

The Final Score: defeated Mundelein, 25-17, 17-25 and 25-14.

Scouts’ Star Performers: Scout setter Heidi Sierks was a floor general out there, directing a potent attack that proved to be the difference in the third game.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Mary Striedl and Tori Lanzillotti combined for 13 kills on 20 attempts in the final set. Meredith Huszagh had 17 digs and 2 aces.

What's Next: Lake Forest (4-2 overall, 1-0 in the North Suburban Conference) hosts Wheeling at 6 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 8), and visit Buffalo Grove at 6 p.m. Monday (Sept. 12).

 

Date: Sept. 2 - Lyons Triangular

The Final Score: lost to Carl Sandburg, 23-25, 19-25; lost to York, 18-25, 22-25, and beat Lyons, 25-22, 25-12.

Scouts’ Star Performers: Mary Striedl had 25 kills, 13 digs and 2 aces for the three matches. Tori Lanzillotti had 17 kills and 17 digs.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Anna Schwartz recorded seven kills, while Heidi Sierks netted 51 assists and 5 aces.

 

GIRLS' TENNIS

Date: Sept. 6

The Final Score: defeated Vernon Hills, 7-0.

Scouts’ Star Performers: The Scouts won in straight sets in both singles and doubles. Singles winners were Catherine Orfanos, Paige Douglass and Margaux Miller. Doubles winners were Elizabeth Zordani-Megan Morris; Erin Hart-Haley Killam; Emily Kuchman-Colleen Morris, and Natalie Pollard-Lucy Lincoln.

What's Next: Lake Forest hosts Mundelein at 4:30 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 8), and visit the Deerfield Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 10). 

The Bottom Line: The Scouts are 3-0 in dual meets. 

 

GIRLS' CROSS COUNTRY

Date: Sept. 3 - Varsity Meet - Leavey Invitational hosted by St. Charles East High School

The Final Score: 1. York 86; 2. Barrington 93; 3. St. Charles East 121; 4. St. Charles North 144; 15. 389. (20 teams scored in the meet).

Scouts’ Star Performers: Helen Schlachtenhaufen was the top Scout finisher with 29th place in 19:16.2.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Erin Malles took 72nd, followed by Hannah Mowry (92nd), Eliotte Pomerich (93rd), Ellen Revenaugh (103rd), Molly Wagener (108th) and Kirsten Warkow (122nd).

What's Next: Lake Forest visits the Wauconda Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 10), and face Warren and Mundelein at 4:30 p.m. Monday (Sept. 12).

The Bottom Line: In the Open Girls race, Lake Forest took fifth has a team with 173 to trail Barrington (28), York (59) Batavia (103) and Benet Academy (115). Top Lake Forest finisher was Pamela Rosales, who took second in 19:52.

 

BOYS' CROSS COUNTRY

Date: Sept. 3 - Open Meet - Leavey Invitational hosted by St. Charles East High School

The Final Score: 1. Marmion Academy 42; 2. Wheaton North 96; 3. Oswego 105; 4. Downers Grove North 116; 11. 389. (17 teams scored in the meet).

Scouts’ Star Performers: Timothy Dugan was the top Scout finished with 25th place in 17:39.6.

Other Notable Scout Performances: James Napier nabbed 52nd followed by Alexander Acker (89th), Frank Theodore (92nd), William Arnson (97th) and Christopher Stride (103rd), Conor Donovan (105th) Peter Grum (112th), William Oakley (124th), Anthony Clewlow (139th), Chance Shea (143rd), Matthew Mekaelian (152nd), Zachary Streightiff (177th), Will Sperry (197th), Griffin Mooney (207th), Conor Donahue (209th), Michael Krapf (24th), Mark DiValerio (251st), Nicolas Nulla (270th), Eric Asmussen (272nd), Brian Hill (280th), and Matthew Goodman (290th).
