Lake Forest High School Shanghai Exchange Program 2013-2014 application deadline is Wednesday, May 8.  Application forms can be found at www.lfhs.org.
The Lake Forest-Shanghai student exchange will be offered during the 2013-2014 school year. Current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors who have an interest in Chinese culture and travel to China are encouraged to apply. There are two components to our program: hosting a student from our sister school for two weeks in October and going to China to visit our sister school and participate in our study tour for two weeks in the spring. Our sister school, No. 2 High School of East China Normal University, is located in the Pudong district of Shanghai, and ranks among the top key schools in the country of China. Our sister school is a boarding school, and even though the families of our students live within the municipality of Shanghai, all students attending this school live on campus Monday through Friday. Our students will have an opportunity to experience a home stay visit with their host student for one weekend during our visit to Shanghai. All LFHS students participating in the exchange program will engage in a variety of activities and events during the 2013-2014 school year to prepare for travel to China.

As a host family you will welcome your Chinese exchange student into your home as a guest for two weeks in October. Your exchange student will speak English; therefore, you should not have difficulty with communication. As a host family your expectations are to provide a comfortable place to sleep, meals, and a willingness to share your life with a Chinese teenager from our sister school. Your exchange student will be involved in a variety of planned activities during their visit to Lake Forest. Some of these events will be planned just for the exchange students, and some events will be planned for the exchange students and host families together. Hosting a student from China can be a rewarding experience that your family can have together.

Young Idea, Lake Forest High School's annual art and literary magazine, has been a vital tradition for decades and has won many national awards over the years.  The magazine is currently in its layout stage and is scheduled for publication in early May. About two dozen students have met weekly to discuss over one hundred pieces of prose and poetry submitted to the magazine for consideration. This year's magazine will once again feature the prose, poetry, photography, painting, and drawing of our talented Lake Forest High School students.  If you would like to support our creative endeavor, please pre-order a copy of the 2013 issue for only $20.00.
