Local Students Earn Spot on Dean's List; Mid-Year Graduates

Here is list of Lake Forest, Lake Bluff college students who have been recognized either with a Dean's List honor or graduated at mid-semester.

Andrew Paul Wyatt of Lake Forest was among nearly 1,500 students who received degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln at commencement exercises Dec. 16 -17. Wyatt received a bachelor's degree in business administration.

Marcus Sudac, of Lake Forest, was named to the Fall Term 2011 Deans' List at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Conn. Choate Rosemary Hall is an independent secondary school enrolling 850 boarding and day students from 39 states and 46 countries.

The following students have been named to the Dean's List for the fall 2011 semester at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis.:

Christine Robinson of Lake Bluff. Robinson is pursuing a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and molecular biology.

Kristopher Decker of Lake Bluff. Decker is pursuing a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences.

Eric Lipinski of Lake Forest. Lipinski is pursuing a bachelor's degree in business economics.

Leland Warren of Lake Forest. Warren is pursuing a bachelor's degree in computer engineering.

Emily McDonough of Lake Forest. McDonough is pursuing a bachelor's degree in elementary/middle education.

Marquette University is a Catholic, Jesuit university that draws its more than 11,500 students from all 50 states and more than 75 different countries.

The following students were awarded degrees from Creighton University during the winter commencement ceremony Dec. 17.

McKenna Simpson of Lake Forest earned a bachelor's degree in health sciences, and a doctor of occupational therapy degree.

Creighton University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution located in Omaha, Neb., enrolls more than 4,100 undergraduate and 3,200 professional school and graduate students.

Lindsey A. Giangiorgi, of Lake Forest,has been named to the dean's list for the fall 2011 semester at the University of Vermont (UVM). Giangiorgi is a first-year student zoology major.

To be named to the dean's lists, students must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class in their respective college or school.

Chartered in 1791, UVM has nearly 10,460 undergraduates in seven schools and colleges, 1,490 graduate students and 452 medical students.

Mark A. Hovan, a resident of Lake Forest, has earned a bachelor's degree from Excelsior College in Albany, N.Y. The college is an accredited, private, nonprofit institution that focuses on the needs of working adults.

The following students were among more than 1,800 students from Wake Forest University who made the Fall Dean's List:

From Lake Bluff: Jennifer Dent and John Clark. From Lake Forest: Lisa Ottensmeyer, Michael Montgomery, Jennifer Spiel, Elizabeth May, and Henry Davis.

Founded in 1834, Wake Forest University is located in Winston-Salem, NC.

Gordon Lamphere, a resident of Lake Forest, was awarded Dean's List honors for academic achievement during the fall 2011 semester at St. Mary's College of Maryland (SMCM).

Dean's List honors are awarded to full-time students at SMCM who earn a semester grade-point average of 3.50 or better on 12 or more graded credits.

More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.

The following students have been named to the President's List at Clemson University for the fall 2011 semester:

Samantha Lee Culbertson of Lake Forest, who is majoring in pre-business.

Shannon Elizabeth Smales of Lake Forest, who is majoring in psychology.

To be named to the President's List, a student must achieve a 4.0 (all As) grade-point average.

Michael Spehlmann from Lake Forest was among the students named to the fall term Dean's List. Spehlmann is a sophomore at Augustana, a private, liberal arts institution affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

The following students have been named to the Dean's List for academic excellence for the winter 2011 semester at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minn.:

Catherine Leider, a sophomore, from Lake Bluff.
Rachel Mancuso, a sophomore, from Lake Bluff.

The Dean's List honors students who achieve a grade point average of 3.6 or greater.

Claire Anne Donohue of Lake Bluff, a member of the Colgate University Class of 2014, has been inducted into Phi Eta Sigma, the national scholastic honorary society that recognizes the outstanding academic achievement of first-year students.

Donohue received the prestigious distinction for having earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 during the 2010-2011 academic year. A banquet was held in honor of the approximately 150 students who qualified.

Currently a sophomore at Colgate, Donohue is a graduate of

Phi Eta Sigma was founded in 1923 at the University of Illinois. The Colgate chapter received its charter in 1982.
