National Spanish Exam Standouts Earn Recognition

Student's intern stint turns into full-time summer job.

LFA students in Noelle Balson’s Spanish II and III Advanced class received awards for their recent performance on the National Spanish Exam. Thirteen students across various levels of language study received the Gold Award: Benjamin Piper,Calin Cave, Alex Kirshenbaum, Margaret Rowe, Matthew Stevens, Lamees Esmail ,Hunter Johnstone, John Luttig Greta Nagel, Jerome Sacherer, Allison  Stankowicz,  Palmer Taylor, and Sarang Kumar. Fifteen students across levels of Spanish study received the Silver Award: Zunaira Arshad, Katherine Diaz, Beatrice Hepkema, Jacqueline Jacobson, James Padley, James Paige, Lauren Pugliese, Hannah Thuroff, Hallie Ventling, Whitney Wright, Alexandria Cedergren, Alexandra DeYoung, Corrine Lane, Adaobi Okoli, and Izabela Tyszka. Four students received the Bronze Award: Melanie Othon, Carolyn Gillette,Christian Lomeli and Rachel Riccio. Five students earned Honorable Mention: Cole Adler, William Duckworth, Spencer Friske, Jessica Gunderson and Morgan Jones.

In addition, four students have been declared Chicago Area Chapter National Spanish Exam winners. They will be honored at an Awards Tea May 14 at Harper College in Palatine and will receive a monetary award. Matthew Stevens and Jerome Sacherer earned first prize, Palmer Taylor captured fourth prize  and Calin Cave collected 9th prize.

Christina Nelson was recognized for her exceptional work interning for Ambassador Talent, the agency with this month’s national Screen Actor’s Guild’s agent of the month. Nelson has also interned for SAG, Chicago. The office has offered her a full-time job this summer.

LFA will celebrate Spring Spirit Weekend, May 14-15. Activities will include the final House Cup competition of the year and a trip to see the new release, Thor, in the iMax movie theatre.

Co-ax, LFA’s faculty/student rock band will host their 25th anniversary concert at 7 p.m. May 16 in the Cressey Theatre. The public is invited.

New members of LFA’s Cum Laude Society will be inducted in a ceremony May 17.

End of the year festivities will begin with Move-Up day on May 27. Graduation will take place on May 28 at 2 p.m.
