New LFHS Principal Understands Excellence

Barry Rogers moves from one of the state's top centers of learning to another in Lake Forest High School.

Excellence is something newly appointed Lake Forest High School Principal Barry Rogers understands very well.

After guiding Northside College Prep in Chicago to a top state and national ranking he is bringing his skills to Lake Forest, another institution which regularly finds a top spot on those lists.

Though the two schools are different—Northside is a magnet school within the Chicago Public School system with admissions standards while Lake Forest’s mission is to educate all students in the community—Rogers is excited about his new opportunity.

“Lake Forest is an awesome community,” Rogers said. “It is an excellent place to raise a family and it displays excellence when it comes to education.  “Lake Forest is a community that has a reputation for succeeding academically.”

When it comes to philosophy of education, Rogers does not intend to limit the excellence he seeks to traditional learning.

“Teachers will use their academic training, creativity and experience to get students engaged,” he said. “We want to move everyone forward. (With) a partnership of parents, teachers and students, we can perform at a very high level.”

With an eye on making learning enjoyable as well as challenging, Rogers knows a lot is necessary to produce outstanding classes year after year. “We will offer the support to engage students at the highest level,” he said.

Rogers, 46, has been an educator and administrator since 1991. Will he be bringing his family to Lake Forest? “My wife and I decided one major decision a year,” the father of two small children said. “We’ll look at it more in the coming year.”
