Newsweek Names Lake Forest High School #167 in USA, 7th in State

Newsweek has ranked Lake Forest High School as the #211 high school in the country and seventh best in Illinois.

For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. You can see the details about Lake Forest High School's ranking, and every other ranked high school by clicking on the markers in the interactive map above.

Lake Forest Community High School District 115 Superintedent Michael Simeck thinks the ranking only starts to scratch the surface explaining the school's excellence.

“Lake Forest High School is consistently ranked as one of the top schools in the state and nation," Simeck said. "Of course we are very proud of these rankings, but they represent only one aspect of the strength of our school and student body. The wide variety and scope of student achievement will never be captured in one report.  Our students excel as scholars, artists, athletes, and ambassadors for their community and families.”

Nearby Deerfield High School ranked #211, while Highland Park High School ranked #373.

The survey scores were then weighted and calculated using several criteria including on-time graduation and college acceptance rates. In addition, instead of averaging the number of courses offered, this year Newsweek considered the percentage of students enrolled in AP, IB or Advance International Certificate courses. The final scores then determined Newsweek’s final rankings.
