Photographer, Sculptor Highlight Celebration of Women in the Arts

Both will make presentations at school

During the month of March, Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart will present the seventh annual Celebration of Women in the Arts, including a Fine Art Exhibition and Artist Lecture Series funded through the generosity of an anonymous donor.

This year the celebration features Karen Glaser and Carolyn Ottmers in a two person exhibition opening March 1 and running through March 18 in the Woodlands Academy Fine Arts Wing.

Both artists will meet with students and present to the Woodland community; Glaser on March 8 and Ottmers on March 14. The presentations will be held in the Haggerty Center, and will include time for questions and answers about the artistic process. The presentations are open to the public.

A Chicago based photographer, Glaser is photography instructor at Columbia College. Previously, she was a Fellow at the Hermitage Artist’s Retreat in Florida and an Artist in Residence at both Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve. She is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Regional Fellowship and her pictures are in multiple museum and corporate collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago.

Ottmers is an associate professor of sculpture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her sculptures are often a hybrid of forms, processes, and materials inspired by the human built and natural landscape. The recurrent use of multiples reflects a dual interest in the variation and diversity of nature as well as the industrial production of objects.
