Attending college next fall? Where? Why did you pick that school? If not college, what are your plans?

I visited colleges across the country from Bowdoin to Pomona, but I only fell in love with one: Carleton College in Minnesota. The campus is beautiful and the small community of students form a competitive, but very cooperative environment. My junior year of high school I visited Carleton and the instant I set foot on campus, I had basically made up my mind as to where I wanted to go. So I applied early decision, got in, and that was it.

What was your favorite class in high school, and why?

My favorite class in high school was my sophomore year English class. My teacher, Mrs. Eccleston, created such a wonderful class atmosphere and was such an amazing teacher that she has inspired my current love of reading and writing. This class and my junior year class with Mrs. Eccleston as well encouraged me to take Literary Criticism and Analysis AP my senior year.

What was your least favorite class in high school, and why?

Science classes were probably my least favorite classes throughout high school because most of those involved really strict memorization and there never seemed to be much room for creativity in them. But, the teachers were excellent and I learned a lot, in spite of myself!

What class do you wish you had been able to take, and why?

I wish I had had time to take a few journalism classes so that I could’ve gotten some experience writing articles and working on the school paper.

Did you participate in extracurricular activities? Which one or ones?

I was on the girls’ golf team for three years and varsity captain for two. I was a member of Student Council and a Co-President of Environmental Club my senior year and a member for all four years.

Is there an extracurricular activity you wish you had been able to try? Why?

I wish I had been able to get involved in peer tutoring because it’s something I’ve always been interested in trying. I think it’s one of the most helpful activities we have at our school.

Are your study habits the same as they were four years ago? If no, what has changed? If yes, describe your study habits?

My study habits are basically the same from freshmen year. I organize all the material I have from a unit and surround myself with all the material in my room. Then I go over everything I didn’t understand very well in detail and just review the other things.

What advice would you pass on to incoming freshmen at LFHS?

I would say to freshmen that it’s really important to keep an open mind about your class options at the high school because there are so many different paths you can take. I would also remind them to give all their teachers a fair chance, even if at first you don’t really seem to like them or their teaching style because you’re going to have to deal with situations like that in the future as well. Try to take art classes. I discovered my love of photography in my sophomore year. I opted to take AP Art with an emphasis in photography in my senior year. Mrs. Zare and the other art teachers helped me to explore my creative side. I know this will figure into my future path.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

When I find my passion, I’ll be pursuing that. I’ll keep you posted.
