Rees Faces Uphill Battle to Remain Starter at Notre Dame

Website's unofficial poll puts freshman Everett Golson as the fans' pick.

Notre Dame's annual Blue-Gold spring game on April 21 may very well predict whether former standout Tommy Rees will be a starter or a backup in the fall.

According to The Bleacher Report, writer Ian Hanford is picking Gunner Kiel to emerge as the starter. The highly touted freshman, who has never taken a snap as an Irish quafrterback, chose Notre Dame over Indiana and LSU. He is the nephew of former Notre Dame quarterback Blair Kiel.

The Bleacher Report cited Rees' 14 interceptions last year as the need for a change at the quarterback position.

In the website's unscientific poll to name the starting quarterback, Everett Golson leads vote-getters with 48.6 percent, followed by Kiel (24.9 percent), Andrew Hendrix (17.8 percent) and Rees (8.9 percent).
