Scout Gymnasts Place Best-Ever 2nd in State Meet

Lake Forest swimmers qualify 5 individuals, 2 relay teams for state meet.

GIRLS' GYMNASTICS 

The Final Score: 1. Carmel 149.45; ; 3. Schaumburg 147.8; 4. Stevenson 146.95; 5. Hinsdale Central 146.675; 6. Fremd 145.65; 7. Glenbard West 144.65; 8.  Prairie Ridge 143.50.

Scouts’ Star Performer: repeated her second place in floor exercise from a year ago with a 9.75, finishing 25 hundredths of a point out of first.

Other Notable Scout Performances: tied for fourth on the balance beam with a 9.425. took ninth with an 8.65.

Who’s Next: The Scouts' second-place finish was their best in school history.

The Bottom Line: Strong performances by Carlson, McKeon, Foster, Brittany Moccia, Grace Kohlmaier and Katie Maier gave Lake Forest a “near perfect meet,” according to coach Robin Straus.

 

BOYS' SWIMMING 

The Final Score: 1. Warren 270, 2. Mundelein 201, 3. Libertyville 197, 4. Lake Forest 171, 5. Deerfield 121.5.

Scouts’ Star Performers:  collected first in the 100-yard freestyle in 47.56 and was third in the 50 freestyle.

Other Notable Scout Performances:  finished second in the 500 freestyle in 4:40.97 and sixth in the 100 backstroke. captured second in the 100 backstroke in 52.87 and fourth in the 100 butterfly. 

Who’s Next:  Five Scouts compete in the State Finals Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25-26, at New Trier High School in Winnetka. 

The Bottom Line:  Davis Malone and diver Andrew Marsh will join Rowe, Grumhaus and Bunning at state. The 200 medley relay team and 400 freestyle relay team of Grumhaus, Bunning, Rowe and Malone also qualified for the State meet.
