Scouts Baseball Rallies in 6th to Top Antioch; Boys' Volleyball Whips ZeeBees

Pole vaulters help Lake Forest boys edge Warren in track.

Scouts’ Star Performer: collected a pair of hits in three trips to the plate, including a double. He also scored twice including the winning run on a wild pitch.

Other Notable Scout Performances: was the winning pitcher in a relief role. He took the mound in the sixth to retire the last two batters after Antioch took the lead. He struck out the final hitter to end the game.

Who’s Next: The Scouts travel to Zion at 4:30 p.m. today (May 3) and return home for a rematch with the Zee-Bees at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday (May 4). On Thursday (May 5), Lake Forest travels to Lakes for a 4:30 p.m. contest. 

The Bottom Line: After Antioch broke open a 3-3 tie in the top of the sixth to take a 5-3 lead, the Scouts rallied to regain the edge with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Ryan Ganshirt drove the tying run home.

BOYS' VOLLEYBALL

The Final Score: Lake Forest defeats Zion-Benton, 25-15, 25-15

Scouts’ Star Performer: Kyle Moore continues to be a leader for the Scouts on the court, putting down a team-high 9 kills, had 2 blocks and 7 digs.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Kris Hawkins chimed in 5 kills to go along with 9 digs. Eric Decker also had 8 digs.

Who’s Next: Lake Forest plays at Libertyville at 6 p.m. Wednesday (May 4).

The Bottom Line: The Scouts dominated from start to finish. Improved defense and serve-receive helped the Scouts maintain their leads in both games. Lake Forest won their first home match of the season.

BOYS' TRACK

Date: May 2

The Final Score: Scouts 76, Warren 70

Scouts’ Star Performer: Lake Forest's top finishers were Billy Bund in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 10:07.3; Max von Ohlen in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.9 seconds, and Joe Hargitt won the 400 meter dash with a time of 52.9 seconds.

Other Notable Scout Performances: once again won both the shot put and discus, while Clifton Brune nabbed second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.1 seconds.

Who's Next: The Scouts head to the Lake County meet on Friday (May 6) at Lake Zurich.

The Bottom Line: The score remained close throughout the meet, but the Scouts had a fairly comfortable lead. With the help of the pole vaulters who swept the places in their respective event, the Scouts once again gained a hard-earned victory.
