The Lake Forest girls’ hockey team may finish the season Sunday holding the Blackhawk Cup awarded to the state’s best team but matching Tuesday’s 3-2 semifinal win over Loyola in Bensenville for excitement may be a tall order.

“This is what we play all year for,” Caroline Knop said after Tuesday’s game. “This shows how much the program has grown.” The team was originally organized by former Scout and Brown University Caption Jenna Danciewicz 10 years ago.

Knop provided a lot of the excitement against Loyola. With the Scouts down 2-1 with 1:42 remaining in the game, she took a pass from Bridget Roche and tied the game sending it into overtime. Less than two minutes into the sudden death, she scored the winning goal.

The Scouts will spend the next few days preparing for Fenwick. They beat the Friars, 1-0, Dec. 16 before falling, 2-1 Jan. 27 and 1-0 Feb. 21.

Patch will have a preview of title game, Friday featuring a video interview with Coach Liz Zorn, and will be at Sunday’s game.
