Scouts Capture Prestigious Field Hockey Title

Lake Forest remains undefeated after winning its pool in the Gateway Classic.

The Final Score: 3, Mary Institute St. Louis Country Day 1; Lake Forest 3, St. Ursula (Cincinnati) 1; Lake Forest 0, Cor Jesu (St. Louis) 0 

Scouts’ Star Performers: and each had a pair of goals in the tournament while goalie collected 13 saves.

Other Notable Scout Performances: had a goal and an assist while Emily Cavalaris added a score. Halle Frain and Margot Mayer each contributed an assist. Strong defense by , Lauren Yarkony, Caroline Marwede, Katie Sullivan and Laura Beshilas helped make the difference, according to Lake Forest coach Melanie Walsh. 

Who’s Next:  The Scouts entertain Oak Park River Forest at 6 p.m. today (Sept. 6) on the Front Lawn.

The Bottom Line: The Scouts won their pool in the Gateway Classic in St. Louis, the largest field hockey tournament in the country with teams competing from as far away as Texas and California. This was Lake Forest’s first title at the event since 2004. They had to upend the defending Ohio state champion, St. Ursula, to do it. The Scouts improved their record to 5-0-1.
