Season Preview: Striedl’s Return Boosts Lake Forest Girls’ Basketball Hopes

Fresh faces from volleyball team join returning veterans as new season opens Tuesday.

Last Year’s Record: 1-27 

Last Year’s Highlights: The Scouts won only one game and finished last in the North Suburban Conference Lakes Division. In Regional play, they l, in the opening round.

Leading Newcomers: Heading the list of newcomers is volleyball all American . Striedl starred for Lake Forest as a sophomore two years ago, but chose to concentrate on club volleyball last year. Also joining the basketball team after a successful volleyball campaign are Jenna Kreb, Anna Schwartz and Torrie Moore. Michelle Antonucci and Anna Keller are new to the varsity after a successful sophomore season a year ago.

Season Opener: Lake Forest hosts Regina Dominican at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 15), and then play five games in the Deerfield Invitational starting with Waukegan at 4:30 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 17).

Season Outlook: First year varsity coach Kyle Wilhelm steps into his new role after five years as a freshman boys’ coach for the Scouts and a season with the sophomore girls. Wilhelm sees the players’ athleticism as their biggest strength as he meshes returning seniors with a group of girls who just finished a conference championship volleyball season.
