Speaker Addresses Lack of Women in Science, Math Careers

Her "growth mindset" concept encourages girls' achievement and interest.

Christianne Corbett, one of the authors of the recently published American Association of University Women  research called, Why So Few? Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, at 7 p.m.  April 6 at the campus in Lake Forest.

Corbett's free presentation is part of the school's Women in Science Speaker Series and open to the public.

Corbett will discuss how social and environmental factors contribute to the underrepresentation of women in science and engineering, and how teachers and parents can encourage girls’ achievement and interest in math and science by creating a “growth mindset.”

Corbett earned a bachelor's degree from Notre Dame in aerospace engineering and government, and a master's degree in cultural anthropology. Corbett was also a Peace Corps volunteer in Ghana.
