Sports Digest: Swimmers Place Third, Basketball Teams Split Games

Jan. 12 

The Final Score:        Lake Forest compiled 111 points to finish third out of 12 teams at the 57th annual Trevian Relays. The Scouts placed behind defending state champion New Trier (172) and Hinsdale Central (115).

Scouts’ Star Performers:      The 400-yard freestyle and 200 medley relay teams of Colin Rowe, Bogdan Balteanu, Daniel Smith and Peter Grumhaus both took first place. Grumhaus also won the 500 freestyle and placed second in the 200. Rowe took the 100 freestyle and swam to third in the 50.

Other Notable Scout Performances:           Belteanu placed second in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 200 individual medley. Smith swam to third in the 100 backstroke and seventh in the 200. Michael LeMay earned eighth place finishes in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke while Peter McCormick was 11th in the 100 butterfly. 

Who’s Next:   Lake Forest travels to Stevenson at 5 p.m. Jan. 24. 

Boys’ Basketball 

The Final Score:        Lake Forest 86, Grant 59 

Scouts Star Performer:         Evan Boudreaux scored 31 points.

Who’s Next:   The Scouts travel to St. Viator Jan. 22. 

The Bottom Line:      Boudreaux had a career high with his 31 points as Lake Forest had its highest offensive output of the season. The Scouts scored first and never trailed leading by as much as 30 points during the game. Lake Forest is now 12-3 for the season. 

Girls’ Basketball 

The Final Score:        Highland Park 48, Lake Forest 41 (overtime) 

Scouts Star Performer:         Brooke Green scored 14 points, dished out six assists, grabbed four rebounds and stole the ball once.

Other Notable Scout Performances:           Annie Keller added nine points while taking down 13 rebounds, stealing the ball four times and adding a pair of assists. Gabby Perino chipped in with six points to go along with four assists, two rebounds and a steal. 

Who’s Next:   The Scouts travel to Zion Benton at 7:30 p.m. Friday. 

The Bottom Line:      After finishing with 38 points at the end of 32 minutes, the Giants outscored Lake Forest, 10-3, in overtime to secure the victory. Highland Park held a one point edge, 11-10, after one quarter before the Scouts surged to a 23-20 lead at halftime. The Giants dominated the third period before the Scouts went on an 11-5 run in the final stanza to tie the game at the end of regulation. Lake Forest is 6-15 for the season.
