Spring Prep Badminton Preview: Scouts Eye State Berth

After a second round Sectional exit last year, Lake Forest has set a goal of reaching the state tournament.

Last Year’s Record: 5-7

Last Year’s Highlights:  With only three teams in the North Suburban Conference — Lake Forest, Zion-Benton and Stevenson — the Scouts concentrated on tournament play. The highlight was a second consecutive championship at the St. Charles Invitational. The team exited State meet play in the second round of the sectionals.

Top Returning Scouts:  Madeleine Doyle will play No. 1 singles for Lake Forest, and the top doubles team will be Emma Lane and Nicole Cardos.

Leading Newcomers: Joining the varsity squad from last year’s junior varsity are Amy Choi, Kasia Groczynski, Sara Ismail, Anne Wells, Emily Woida, Madeleine Panos and Olivia Nguyen.

Season Outlook: As Coach Kerry Littel enters her third season, a record 57 girls tried out making this the deepest squad during Littel’s tenure. The team’s goal is advancing past sectionals to reach the State tournament. With 18 meets packed into a six-week regular season, Littel sees conditioning and endurance as the team’s greatest challenge.
