Students Honored with Distinctions, Dean's List, Graduation

William Kingsland Barkhausen, a member of the Class of 2013 at Colgate University, is among 26 rising seniors to be selected for membership in the university's Konosioni Senior Honor Society. Barkhausen is a resident of Lake Bluff. The Konosioni Senior Honor Society is founded on the principles of leadership, service to the community, and preservation of Colgate tradition. Every year, the graduating senior members choose the next 13 men and 13 women student leaders who will carry on the Konosioni legacy.

Meghan Pioli, a Denison University student from Lake Forest, is studying off-campus for the 2012 spring semester. Pioli, a member of the class of 2013, is studying with the Danish Institute for Study Abroad Program in Denmark.

Sarah McClenahan of Lake Bluff was named to the Dean's List of Emory College, the undergraduate, liberal arts college in Atlanta, Ga., for the 2011 fall semester. Students must be in the top 20 percent of Emory College or have approximately a 3.81 grade point average or higher to be named to the Dean's List.

Emily McDonough of Lake Forest has been inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu, a prestigious international Jesuit honor society, at Marquette University. McDonough is a junior in the College of Education majoring in elementary/middle education and communication studies. Alpha Sigma Nu is a worldwide honor society for students at Jesuit colleges and universities who distinguish themselves in scholarship, loyalty, and service. Induction to Alpha Sigma Nu is one of the highest honors a student can receive on a Jesuit campus.

The following Lake Forest students from Colgate University are recipients of the Dean's Award for academic excellence during the 2011 fall term. To be eligible for the Dean's Award, a Colgate student must achieve a 3.30 or higher average while enrolled in four courses. A member of the Colgate class of 2013, Brendan Sydney Karson is studying environmental economics. A member of the Colgate class of 2012, Elizabeth Tighe Magnuson is studying environmental economics. Magnuson is a graduate of Lake Forest High School. A member of the Colgate class of 2013, Rebecca Hill Raudabaugh is studying psychology. Raudabaugh is a graduate of Lake Forest Academy.

Among the more than 4,500 undergraduate students at the University of Kansas to earn honor roll distinction for the fall 2011 semester were two Lake Forest students and one from Lake Bluff. The honor roll comprises undergraduates who meet requirements in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and in the schools of allied health; architecture, design and planning; business; education; engineering; journalism; music; nursing; pharmacy; and social welfare. Margaret Ann Brandwein of Lake Forest is a senior in applied behavioral science. She was named to the honor roll for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Margaret Ann O'Connor of Lake Bluff is a sophomore undecided major. She was named to the honor roll for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. James Michael Stroh of Lake Forest is a freshman in pre-law. He was named to the honor roll for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Area students were named to the dean's list at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, for their outstanding academic achievement during the fall semester of the 2011-12 year. Students had to achieve grade point averages of 3.61 or higher. Laura M. Burns, a member of the Class of 2012, is majoring in global studies. She attended Lake Forest High School. Christopher J. Fraser, a member of the Class of 2012, is majoring in philosophy. He attended Lake Forest Academy. Harrison S. Geldermann, a member of the Class of 2013, is majoring in economics. He attended LFHS. Nickolas M. Kondiles, a member of the Class of 2013, is majoring in science, technology, and society. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy.

Brittany Mitchell of Lake Forest was named to the dean's list at Olivet Nazarene University during the recently completed fall 2011 semester. To qualify, a student must have been enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student and attained a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 grading scale.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has announced its Deans' List/Honor Roll for the fall 2011 semester. Lake Forest students Konrad Henry Siebert and Andrew Paul Wyatt were named to the list. Siebert is a sophomore economics major. Wyatt is a senior marketing major.

Xiaoying Sun, a resident of Lake Forest, has been named to the Fall 2011 Dean's List at Roger Williams University. Full-time students who complete 12 or more credits per semester and earn a GPA of 3.4 or higher achieve the honor.

Nicole Lauren Arfsten of Lake Forest earned a bachelor's degree in general studies/communication studies at the University of Kansas for the Fall 2011 semester.
