Swimmers Win League Meet, Girls Win Regional Opener

Lake Forest High School swim team edge Stevenson for conference crown. Girls' basketball team advances in Regional.

Scouts’ Star Performers:      Peter Grumhaus, Colin Rowe, Bogdan Balteanu and Daniel Smith teamed to win both the 200-yard medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. Grumhaus also won the 200 and 500 freestyle events while Rowe took the 100 freestyle and was second to Grumhaus in the 200. Balteanu was the winner in the 100 breaststroke and took third in the 200 individual medley. Smith grabbed second in the 100 backstroke and third in the 50 freestyle. Andrew Marsh captured second in the diving competition.

Other Notable Scout Performances:           Cole Mitchell swam to fifth in the 100 breaststroke and eighth in the 100 freestyle while Michael LeMay earned sixth in the 100 butterfly and seventh in the 200 individual medley. Peter McCormick helped out with eighth in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Rasmus Kull finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke; Scott Bennatan was seventh in the 500 freestyle while Michael VanAntwerp was eighth.

Who’s Next:   Lake Forest competes in the Sectional at 1 p.m. Saturday in Vernon Hills. 

Girls’ Basketball 

Feb. 11 

The Final Score:        Lake Forest 36, Mundelein 33

Scouts’ Star Performers:      Brooke Green scored 10 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out five assists and stole the ball twice.

Other Notable Scout Performances:           Grace Torkelson chipped in seven points, Gabby Perino and Kate Arnson six each, Annie Keller four and Maddie Wells three. 

Who’s Next:   Lake Forest meets Rolling Meadows at 6 p.m. today in the Mundelein Regional. 

The Bottom Line:      A 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter put Lake Forest into the lead and gave it a five-point edge, 30-25, never to trail again. After the Mustangs pulled within one, 30-29, Perino and Torkelson made key free throws to secure the win. After that, solid defense made the difference, according to Coach Kyle Wilhelm.
