Tommy Rees Leads the Irish to Another Win as Notre Dame Holds Off Boston College

The former Lake Forest High School star improves to 12-2 as a college starter; up next is Andrew Luck and Stanford.

THE SKINNY: No style points for Tommy Rees and the Irish Saturday night, but they will take the final result. The product led Notre Dame to a 16-14 win over a scrappy Boston College team in South Bend, Ind. Rees' numbers were workmanlike: 24-of-39 passing for 256 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. Ten of Rees' competions went to future NFL draft choice Michael Floyd, who had 92 yards receiving.

GOOD TOMMY: The sophomore was good in that he once again piloted the Irish to a victory. Notre Dame was plagued by bad field position all night -- six drives started inside its own 15 yard line -- and were unable to generate points. It was a classic manage the game night for Rees. His season stats are an indication of his efficiency: 66.6 percnt completion rate, 2,648 yards, 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Not spectacular, but enough to win. BAD TOMMY: For the third week in a row, we didn't see much of this. Rees did throw one interception in the first half. Eagles defenders failed to catch at least two other potential picks. When asked after the game about Rees' performance, Irish coach Brian Kelly didn't exactly give a strong endorsement of his quarterback's play: "We won again. He's 12-2 as a starter. That's pretty good." With Kelly, it's all about results. There is a segment of Irish fans and media members who are still skeptical. Here are two tweets after Rees' interception:

@davidmccoywsbt: And Lord Turnover rears. His ugly head.

@jacquesdupuis: I've never had much faith in Tommy Rees. It's not increasing now.

Such is the life of being the quarterback at Notre Dame.

The blogosphere is more emotional when it comes to Rees. Here's one take from the Subway Domer

UP NEXT: Rees and the Irish travel to California to take on Andrew Luck and Stanford next Saturday (Nov. 26).
