Lake Forest College Theater Presents 'All of Orestes'

Experience a Greek tragedy with laughs at Lake Forest College's production of 'All of Orestes," which opens Feb. 21 and runs through March 2.

The Lake Forest College Theater Department presents its humorous take on Greek tragedy, "All of Orestes," from Feb. 21 through March 2.

The production is a three-act look at Orestes and his descent into matricidal madness. It is a modern adaptation of nearly all the Greek tragedies that feature Orestes (Aeschylus’ Oresteia, Sophocles’ Elektra, and Euripides’ Elektra,Orestes, Andromache and Iphigenia in Tauris).

Orestes returns to Argos ten years after his mother kills his father to enact murderous revenge with the help of his sister Elektra. Hunted by the Furies, he finally abandons his flight and stands trial under a new system of justice.

This is a contemporary work of theater that updates Ancient Greece to a Cold War Soviet look. Recasting the plays' language into a contemporary voice, Graney has found dark humor in the story of the blood revenge that curses Orestes until the gods enact a new democratic system of justice that finally stops the ongoing cycle of retribution. Immerse yourself in Graney's promenade style of theater.
