Top Students Receive Academic Honors in Subjects, State

School slates summer sports camps in volleyball, field hockey and basketball.

Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart in Lake Forest offers summer volleyball, basketball and field hockey camps for girls in grades 7-12. The volleyball and field hockey camps will run June 20-24, while the basketball camp runs June 21-24. The camps welcome all skill levels, and include a mix of skill instruction, game play, speed and agility, and offensive and defensive system dissection. Daily hours for the volleyball camp are 9-11:30 a.m.; noon to 2:30 p.m. for basketball, and 9-11:30 a.m. for field hockey. Space is limited to maximize camper experience, and girls are encouraged to register early. The registration deadline is June 1. The fee for volleyball and field hockey camps is $125 per participant, while basketball camp is $100. Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart seniors have been elected into Pi Sigma Pi, the Illinois Academic Honor Society in history. These students have a minimum of a B+ average in honors level history classes. The honorees are: Charlotte Elwart, Maryl Montagne, and Riley Parrott of Lake Forest, Allyson Genger and Anne Goodman of Lake Bluff, and Hannah Wilson of Winnetka.

Eighteen students at Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart in Lake Forest were recently inducted into the national French and Spanish Honor Societies. Students inducted into the Societé Honoraire Française (SHF) were junior Lulu Ren of the People’s Republic of China; sophomores Catherine Dorman of Chicago and Flora Harris of Lake Forest; and freshmen Megan Oelerich of Chicago, Andrea Tellez of Waukegan, and Caroline Watts of Lake Bluff. For membership in the SHF, students must be enrolled in second year French or higher, have an A- or better as their cumulative average in French, and have at least a B- cumulative average in all of their high school subjects.

The following students were inducted into the National Spanish Honor Society (NSHS): seniors Alexis Good of Westville, Kelsey Key and Leann Lyden of Lake Forest, and Sara Reyes of Kenilworth; juniors Karly Anderson of Grayslake, Gabriela Carrillo of Palatine, Alexandra Lazar of Lake Forest, Meaghan Long of Orland Park, Grace Rudnik of Lake Bluff, and Isabella Swift of Mettawa; and sophomores Emily Bartusiak of Deerfield and Caitlin L. McCarthy of Winnetka. To be eligible for membership in the NSHS, students must maintain a 90 percent average in their Spanish courses, and must commit to continuing their Spanish studies and to performing three hours of community service.

Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart's Illinois State Scholars for the Class of 2011 are: Kaitlin Donnelly and Hannah Wilson of Winnetka; Charlotte Elwart, Maryl Montagne, Christina Osorio and Riley Parrott of Lake Forest; and Allyson Genger and Anne Goodman of Lake Bluff. The Illinois State Scholar Program recognizes Illinois high school students for outstanding academic achievement. Students ranking in the top 10 percent of the state’s graduating seniors are recognized as Illinois State Scholars. These rankings are based on a combination of ACT test scores and class rank at the end of the sixth semester in high school.
