Led by violinist Edgar Gabriel, String Groove takes the audience on a musical journey that transcends time, geography, and culture. This musical ensemble combines old-world music with new sounds to create a truly original 21st Century sound. With the violin/electric violin at the core of the instrumentation, the musicians demonstrate infectious, driving rhythms and syncopations that are influenced by a wide variety of musical genres, including classical, West African, Middle Eastern, Asian, Latino, jazz, folk, blues, and rock. This performance is organized by the APT and funded through a generous grant from The Spirit of 67 Foundation. They will perform at Deer Path Middle School on Jan. 31; Cherokee and Sheridan schools on Feb. 1, and Everett School on Feb. 2.

Lake Forest School District 67 and Lake Bluff School District 65 are providing a free educational screening Feb. 10 for preschool-age children who reside in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff. Three, 4- and 5-year-old children who have not entered Kindergarten are eligible for the preschool screening. The screening is not for advance placement in school, but to help parents identify development lags in their children. Developmental delays can be observed in a child’s speech and language, fine and gross motor skills, learning ability, or emotional and social growth. Nurses also complete a brief vision and hearing screening. For more information, or to schedule a child’s preschool screening appointment, visit the District 67 website (www.lf67.org) or contact Carole Racansky, District 67 department of student services, (847) 604-7422.
