VIDEO: Lake Forest Golfer Sits 2nd At Illinois State Amateur

Brad Hopfinger will chase Todd Mitchell in Friday's final 36 holes.

graduate Brad Hopfinger will pair up with Todd Mitchell on Thursday (Aug. 11) for the final 36 holes as the duo battle in the 81st annual Illinois State Amateur at Glen Oak Country Club in Glen Ellyn.

Hopfinger, a recent graduate of the University of Iowa, carded a 68 on on Wednesday to move to a 3-under, 137 total or two strokes behind Mitchell for the championship. Mitchell, a two-time Illinois State Amateur champion from Bloomington, shot a 67 Thursday and stands at 5-under par.

Andrew Wyatt, also of Lake Forest, is tied for12th place with seven other golfers at 145. Lake Forest's Perry Johnson shot a 69 Thursday to move up to 36th place at 149. Lake Bluff's Andy Johnson is in 100th place at 159.

This past spring at Iowa, Hopfinger earned First team, All-Big Ten honors, and his fall and spring combined stroke average of 72.69 is one of Iowa's lowest in program history.
