Volleyball Team Reunites On Court After Summer Club Pursuits

When ’s girls volleyball team opens its season at 6 tonight, Aug. 25, against Buffalo Grove, nine teammates who played in the USA Volleyball national tournament this summer on different squads will be reunited as Scouts.

helped Sky High U17 Black finish seventh and earned All-America honors. She will be playing for the University of Pittsburgh next year.

earned a place on the All-Tournament team while competing for Rolling Thunder U17 Blue along with Lake Forest teammate . Sierks will be playing college volleyball for the University of California at San Diego in 2012. 

Mary Gwen Baker, Maggie Jacobson, Carolyn Hopfinger, Meredith Huszagh, Jennifer Kreb and Anna Schwartz all played in nationals for Netforce U17.

Jillian Schwartz, a 1997 graduate and 2004 American Olympian in the pole vault, is taking a circuitous route to the 2012 London games. A year ago, she became an Israeli citizen, trains there and will compete for the Israelis in the next Olympics.

Former golfer missed the cut at the U.S. Amateur at Blue Mound Country Club in Wauwatosa, Wis., shooting rounds of 70 and 76. Rains delayed his round Tuesday and it wasn't completed until Wednesday morning.

Former assistant volleyball coach John Leonard is the new coach for Ave Maria University women's volleyball team.

Lake Forest  gymnast Kristin Leiberman has transferred from Boise State to Illinois State. Lieberman competed for Illinois Gymnastics Institute in Westmont, Ill., and was a Level 10 regional and national qualifier in 2010, according to the ISU athletic website. She was second on the balance beam, fourth in the all-around and placed sixth on the floor at the 2010 regionals. She was also a Level 10 state and regional qualifier in 2009.
