Week-long Events Set to Celebrate Earth Week

2006 grad showcases photographs of 400-mile charity bike ride.

Lake Forest High School will celebrate “One Week,” April 18-22. “One Week” is a collaborative effort to celebrate Earth Week, while also focusing on students’ influence in their community and school environment. The week-long events are sponsored and supported by the Environmental Club, Emotional Wellness Initiative, Student Council, National Honor Society, the Art Department, the Cafeteria Staff, and the APT. There will be an LFHS Parent Meeting at 6:30 p.m. April 19 in the Board Room, LFHS West Campus, 300 S. Waukegan Road. Join Dr. Harry Griffith, Dr. John Asplund, the special education administrative team and selected school board members for an important update regarding the Special Education program.

LFHS Prom tickets will be on sale April 19-21 in the student commons during lunch periods. Only LFHS juniors and seniors may purchase tickets; underclassmen may attend prom if invited by an upperclassmen. Singles are encouraged to attend. More information can be found at www.lfhs.org.

There will be a Junior/Senior APT Parent Meeting at 9 a.m. April 20 regarding prom and graduation in the David Miller Theatre.

Lake Forest High School slates a presentation April 20 in the David Miller Theater by Kaitlin Rogers, LFHS Class of 2006, and published photographer.  Presentations will be taking place during lunch periods and will start at 10:40 a.m., 11:35 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. Rogers will share how she followed her passions and her commitment to community service and ended up in Tanzania, photographing RIDETZ, a 400 mile charity ride from Mount Kilimanjaro to the Pangani Coast of the Indian Ocean. Her captivating photographs are published in “400 Miles” a photographic essay book by the Foundation for Tomorrow, a non-profit organization that provides scholarships for African orphans to attend boarding school in their home countries.

The Lake Forest High School Foundation will host a benefit, “Planting a Foundation for Education,” to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Lake Forest High School.  This event, which includes a luncheon and silent auction, will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 26 at the Exmoor Country Club. The day will begin with a silent auction, including unique items from the community and a selection of Lake Forest High School special offerings. Theme-oriented centerpieces will be available for sale and a raffle will be held for an Apple iPAD. The program will include the dedication of a painting by Mark McMahon, “Kids & Cars – a Classic Reunion” commissioned by the Foundation and generously underwritten by Knauz Motors in Lake Bluff.
